Tree-planting is the process of transplanting tree seedlings, generally for forestry, land reclamation, or landscaping purpose. It differs from the transplantation of larger trees in arboriculture, and from the lower cost but slower and less reliable distribution of tree seeds.

Planting trees to protect and expand Atlanta’s tree canopy is a fundamental part of Trees Atlanta’s mission. To maximize community impact, Trees Atlanta concentrates its planting efforts in areas where they are needed most—around schools and in parks, neighborhoods, and business districts. To date, Trees Atlanta has planted more than 133,000 trees throughout the metro area.

Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia. With an estimated 2018 population of 498,044, it is also the 37th most-populous city in the United States. The city serves as the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, home to 5.9 million people and the ninth largest metropolitan area in the nation. Atlanta is the seat of Fulton County, the most populous county in Georgia. Portions of the city extend eastward into neighboring DeKalb County.

Atlanta was originally founded as the terminus of a major state-sponsored railroad. With rapid expansion, however, it soon became the convergence point among multiple railroads, spurring its rapid growth. The city's name derives from that of the Western and Atlantic Railroad's local depot, signifying the town's growing reputation as a transportation, Centennial Olympic Park, built for the 1996 Olympics, encompasses the massive Georgia Aquarium

Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlanta's tree loss, protect its forests, and create new green space.
